Jeff Kowatch

Jeff Kowatch, born in California in 1965, and currently residing in Belgium, has developed a colorist painting style inspired by great American abstract artists, from Mark Rothko to Brice Marden, while incorporating the technique of the great Flemish painters, particularly Rembrandt, whose linseed oil recipes he has re-appropriated to give his paintings a particular effect of depth and transparency, specific to the glazes of the North. In his oil-stick drawings on Dibond, energy takes precedence over meditation.
