“First of all, what I see is the empty canvas. I surrender myself to it. My sensual perception is assigned to making me perceive the miracle that is to happen. And if there’s some pressure in the canvas, I try to feel my way into it and afterwards to observe, when it comes to life before me. I will not master it, but I must capture it, subdue it. My ‘I’ naturally pervades this picture and I am a part of it. It does not resist me, and gradually the corporality of the painterly resources on the screen grows, ‘til it encloses itself in an organism which I would injure by further intervention. It becomes my competitor. It’s a structure that lives by and of itself, and just as I enter into it, the viewer can do the same. “
